Black Sabbath: Dehumanizer rehearsal. Studio. 1991
Yes Cozy Powell
on drums and not DIO on vocals, this is the first part of a
big collection of rehearsals from this album, after Cozy Powell departure this kind of items surfaced and this one is
very interesting and hard to get, over this sessions we can hear a very well
developed Computer God and Letters from earth (The last one much better than the final version)
so that means they weren’t written by DIO
or with the help of him apart of the lyrics, also we can find a riff from Get a grip a song which will be released many years after with Tony Martin as singer, there are other tracks, without names, by
the way Cozy was so good in Black Sabbath a shame he didn’t do it that album with them, here is
an extract from the review I found at www.sabbathlive.com about this bizarre item.
Note from Sabbath live archives,
written by Robert Dwyer:
Notes: Recommended! This rare jewel
is from the private collection of Cozy Powell. Many recordings from his various
bands and projects have surfaced on bootleg CD’s since his passing.
This recording is special for many different reasons. For one, the quality is
excellent, considering that it was more than likely taken from the master
recording. Many people list this as a “soundboard”, but that is really not
true. It sounds like it was taped with a decent portable cassette deck by Cozy
himself. Iommi is quite prominent in the mix, as are the drums. Geezer can be
heard fairly well, but he’s not as overpowering. There are 3 “unreleased”
tracks that sound quite finished here. Also, this is the available recording of
this particular lineup of Sabbath (Iommi, Powell, Butler).
All the tracks are instrumental. It is not yet known whether this was done before
Dio joined, but this is likely.
Computer God – Take 1, Letters From
Earth – Take 1, Letters From Earth [Take 2], Unknown Song #1 – Take 1, Unkown
Song #1 – Takes 2 and 3, Unknown Song #1 – Take 4, Apache [only 1 minute of;
aborted when Tony messed up!], Unknown Song #2, Unkknown Song #3 [contains riff
from “Get A Grip”, Laughing And Talking -> Someone whistles a melody line
[maybe Cozy?] -> Computer God – Take 2 [joined in progress; aborted after
1st chorus], Computer God – Take 3 [aborted after 30 seconds], Computer God –
Take 4 [aborted after 2 minutes].
I
think he did a more competent job about Black
Sabbath and about this bootleg than me.
